At the end of February I was lucky enough to have an artist residency. A place all my own to paint to my heart’s delight. As the days got longer and just a bit warmer, my thoughts went to spring.
Peeking into a Spring Garden was one of the last paintings I made. The window-like quality is made up of mono prints with bits of nature I found on my walks through the neighborhood and park. The flower image was inspired by a sweet book of Japanese floral watercolors and inks. I admire Japanese art for its simplicity of lines.
I wanted this painting to be fresh and meditative, like when you are lost in thought staring out your window at the garden, holding a hot cup of tea or your morning coffee, thinking about your day and how best to get on with it.
It’s ready to hang in a beloved space. Its 1” white edges keep it crisp, and no need to frame, although, of course you can!
