Acrylic on Canvas ready to hang.
36×72
Sometimes You Get What You Need began with the spring colors of pinks and greens that I wanted to plant in my window boxes. As I began painting, I was listening to the Rolling Stones' Sometimes You Get What You Want, and this painting became about my mother and me. It's layered (metaphorically and literally) with loose black ink marks on the base layer followed by layers of paint, ink and collage.
You can't paint about your mother and not feel emotion, so this painting has lots of that. Some pain and mostly joy.
