Mixed Media on Cradled Wood Panel
9×12
$150
Mending is a part of my new series called Neshemah “speaking from the soul.”
This small painting is filled with expressive gestures of deep orange, reds and blues and includes bits of blue thread that I used to recently mend some clothes.
Mending was one of the last tasks in my Artist’s Way book. I am not someone who typically mends my clothes. In fact, I find it impossible to thread a needle, but I sat down one Sunday with a spool of blue thread, a needle, my readers, and a small pile of clothes that would normally have sat there forever. I was determined. The readers made threading the needle surprisingly easy. So, I sat and sewed on a jacket button, mended holes in two favorite sweaters, and a pair of pants.
I felt like the mending was so symbolic in my evolution that I included the left-over thread in a few of the Neshemah paintings, including this one.
Most of us are menders in one form or another; we just need to see it.
