Humming is inspired by my trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. The colors in Mexico are outrageously beautiful and bright, the hummingbirds are everywhere in the street art, and the Dr. Seuss trees!
I collaged a fallen blossom from a Dr. Seuss tree in this painting--most of the trees were done blooming when we were there, but what a spectacularly weird and gorgeous blossom!
When traveling, I habitually rip off poster pieces from walls (only if they've already been torn). I also collect blossoms, leaves and all kinds of stuff that most people would overlook. I never know how or if I'll use them in my works, but if they inspire me enough to carry them home, that's all I need to know.
